ElectionsIn the United States, there are more than 500,000 elected offices, most of them at the local level across the country. The federal government has limited control of the election process which is highly regulated by State law. Presidential and congressional elections are held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November in even-numbered years. Most states hold their general elections at the same time; local elections are generally held then also, or in the spring. As Americans, we are fortunate to be able to participate in the governing of our country through the ballot box. It is our duty to become informed about candidates and issues that affect our lives and country.
